Sweet Lilia: 1 week old PDF Print E-mail

Our friends Cris and Corrie recently had their third baby! She is the most precious thing and was SUCH a sweet little girl for me during this mini-photoshoot! Here are a couple pictures from our time together. I can't wait to see you again, Lilia! You are a doll!

The Chrysalis PDF Print E-mail

A couple weeks ago Zachariah came running into the house yelling "Mom! Mom! You HAVE to come see this! There is a chrysalis in our backyard!" And sure enough, underneath a beam on our back fence, there was this gorgeous green chrysalis. I couldn't get over how pretty it was. A week went by and there was no change to the chrysalis, but on the second week we started seeing a change in the color. It was darkening up a bit and we were able to see a pattern on the inside. It was quickly very clear that we were looking at the butterflies wing! We started checking on it twice a day, just to make sure nothing major was changing. Zachariah wanted desperately to see that butterfly when it came out!

During this waiting period we did a little bit of research and learned about the changes a caterpillar goes through in the chrysalis to become a butterfly. We knew what to look for and it was SO cool to see it all happen! A couple days later the color of the chrysalis changed from green to a blue-ish black and it was getting more transparent. A day later we started noticing air pockets, which meant that the butterfly was starting to separate from the chrysalis. From that point on we checked on it every couple hours. Sunday morning I checked on it before we left for church and I noticed MORE air pockets. After lunch that day I went out to check on it again and BOOM. This is what I saw.

Unfortunately we missed her emerging from the chrysalis, but we were able to watch as she dried her wings and prepared to fly for the first time. It was SO incredible to watch.

From everything I have read, but butterflies usually stay on the outside of the chrysalis for around three hours drying their wings. Her wings were looking pretty dry when we got out there, so I am guessing she had been out for a good two hours.

She would walk around a little bit and stretch her legs, then rest. Zachariah was absolutely fascinated by this whole thing.

After about 15 minutes she climbed to higher ground and started opening and closing her wings.

It was really cool to see how dark orange and wet the inside of her wings looked! But she would open and close them repeatedly to get them to dry.

Is she not gorgeous?! Goodness.

I am so incredibly glad we got to witness this amazing process. Researching it all and then seeing everything happen... it just left my jaw hanging wide open. The process a tiny caterpillar went through to become this beautiful butterfly is truly amazing and quite complicated. God is just so awesome. I am just tickled pink that we were able to see this through till the end.

Anyway. I just wanted to share our excitement with you all. :) We have quite the busy week ahead of us, but we are looking forward to all the family fun that awaits us! I hope you all have a yummy, safe and fun Thanksgiving!

Mary Alice PDF Print E-mail

This past weekend I took some pictures of sweet Mary Alice. (AKA: My baby's bff.) Elijah and Mary Alice are the only ones in the baby room at church right now, so they are quickly becoming buds! She is such a sweetie and her Mom is such a wonderful friend to me, so I was super excited to do a mini-photoshoot with her! I can't believe she is turning eight months old soon. Gah.

Here are my favorites from our time together Saturday!

Thanks for being a trooper, Mary Alice! Even though I annoyed the tar out of you there at the end. ;)

She's such a cutie patootie.

Have a great week everyone!

Dragonflies PDF Print E-mail

I love having a garden this year. It is so nice to be able to go pluck a banana pepper off the plant when I need one for dinner. I love watching my green bean plants grow and I enjoy planting new seeds and anticipating their growth. Gardening is just fun. Frustrating at times. But fun!

Another perk to having a garden is all the insects it attracts. Dragonflies eat a variety of insects, and so they hover around our garden quite a bit. We see THE prettiest dragonflies out there. The boys have named the four regulars that hang around our garden, and this blue one up here is particularly friendly!

This is Skyfly and he is the only one that will sit around for my photoshoots. The other ones I have to be real quick to catch, but this dude enjoys the camera and company of the boys. (As long as Micaiah isn't threatening to kill him.)

This is Green Hornet. He is my favorite, and he usually doesn't stick around for pictures. But earlier this week I got lucky! He had just caught his lunch and was munching away on it.

It took him a while to eat, so he would fly around and land several different places to enjoy his meal which allowed me time to take his picture. It was very cool watching him eat.

See that bug hanging out of his mouth? The boys were in awe.

I can't wait to go back out there with my camera again. I love having these beautiful garden friends around!!!

Camille is One! PDF Print E-mail

We have known this little girl's family for... well, a long time.  We started going to church with them a little over four years ago, but we knew them long before that. In fact, I babysat Camille's 12 year old siblings when they were little! (Speaking of which, happy birthday, Judge and Jaylan!) This family is so special to us, and we love them dearly. So needless to say, I was thrilled to be able to take some one year old pictures of sweet little Camille!

And you guys, this little girl is THE most precious thing. The whole time I was editing these pictures I kept calling out, "DANIEL. She is just killing me with cute!" She and her mama made this photo session an absolute breeze. Which was wonderful, because I am currently massively pregnant and I don't really move around gracefully these days. ;)

So without further adieu, here are a few pictures from Camille's one year old session!

Thank you, Camille, for being so stinkin' cute! :)

And that's it for photo sessions for a while, folks. I am out of commission until sometime after this baby arrives! Hope everyone has a great day and upcoming weekend!
