Two Years Old PDF Print E-mail

Since I haven't gotten around to taking "official" two year old pictures of Micaiah, I thought a few snap shots were in order. And since I have some pictures to post I might as well do an "all about Micaiah" post and give you a little info about my adorable little two year old!

I don't know why, but I am constantly amazed at how different my two boys are. Z was a very cautious kid. Never climbing on or jumping off furniture. He basically stayed away from anything that would be considered wild and dangerous. Micaiah, on the other hand, is the definition of wild and dangerous. He climbs on anything can just so he can jump off of it and climb it again. He runs around with boxes or blankets on his head because he think's he is hilarious, only to run into a wall and get a whelp on his head. He tries to climb in the dryer and dishwasher if either are left open. I swear to you, he would scale the walls if they had footholds. In fact, in the mornings when I go in to get him out of his crib he now throws everything out (blanket, pillow, stuffed animals... EVERYTHING.) and then hikes a leg up over the crib and says "Ok, jump." Thankfully he doesn't have the "oomph" needed to hurl himself over the rail yet, but it's coming. Once we get settled into our new house this kid is going to need a big boy bed.

Despite his craziness, he is still my cuddly, thumb sucking, teddy bear loving baby. His attachment to his bear is still alive and well, and it shows no sign of dwindling. That bear comes everywhere with us. And on the rare occasion that it is left behind, Micaiah notices less than five minutes into our errand running venture. This bear (and his thumb) are his security blankets and he doesn't like to be separated from either. I noticed a while back that there are very few pictures of Micaiah that do not have bear in them somewhere. Even our Christmas card picture included that bear! :P

Because the bear comes everywhere (grocery stores, outside, toy stores, grandparents, homeschool classes... you get the picture), we need to wash it fairly frequently. And when we do, it is THE most depressing time for Micaiah. He tries to distract himself from the fact that he has to spend 2 hours away from bear, but it never works. He goes back and forth between my lap and the laundry room door asking for bear to be done. And when the dryer turns off Micaiah digs around in the clothes until he finds the bear, and then they share lots of hugs, kisses and kind words. (Yes, I said exchanged. Micaiah makes the bear talk back to him in a high pitched squeaky voice.) I think it's safe to say that this bear is very loved!

Oh, and did I mention that he is still a major Mama's boy? I assume you guys knew that. Over the past couple months I have been trying to explain to him that he doesn't need to be held ALL the time, and instead of carrying him I will hold his hand and we will walk together. Thankfully that seems to do the trick. I love cuddling with him and holding him, but not when I am standing. And not 24/7. He is 30 pounds and that just gets heavy after a while!

One of the not so fun parts of having a mamas boy is his jealousy when I hold or touch ANYONE but him. When he sees me holing a baby in nursery at church, he screams and cries and begs for me to be done. And then he holds a grudge for the rest of the day and reminds me that I held a baby. *eye roll* Also, when a friend a church hugged me the other week (I was holding him), he grabbed me around the neck and said "No, mama hug ME."

Wanna hear a couple more examples? When Zachariah gets hurt or needs a hug for whatever reason, Micaiah gets livid. He will try to push Z out of my lap so that he can come in and snuggle. And the worst is when he sees Daniel give me a hug or kiss. He will scream and then cry as if he just witnessed someone ripping his teddy bear to shreds. Alligator tears, folks. And he won't come near us until Daniel has stopped touching me. It's ridiculous. And we are trying to work on correcting this selfish behavior of his. While it started out kinda funny, it is really becoming an issue around here!

Another few fun facts about my youngest:

His favorite...

color is yellow.

animal is a puppy. And bears.

food is hummus.

person to play with his Zachariah.

joke is "knock knock. Who's there? Hee Hee. Hee hee who? PUSH!" (And yes, he will actually tell that joke quite often. It's kinda embarrassing.)

thing to do is play outside (aka: climb on our fort). And snuggle with me. And watch Mickey Mouse clubhouse. And read books with Dad. ;)

As you can probably tell, there is never a dull moment with this kid. He is such a fun little guy who constantly makes us laugh and we love him to pieces!!!

A Few Things... PDF Print E-mail

1) Due to recent stomach/digestive issues, I am having to go lactose free. As in, I can't have dairy anymore. Which stinks. A lot. Because cheese is a big part of my life. Seriously, folks. It is basically a food group for me! But I have done research and experimenting with my diet and we are quite sure dairy is the problem. When I eat dairy I have severe stomach pain and related issues. When I go a few days without any dairy products I feel perfectly fine and normal again. So I am joining Micaiah (who is lactose intolerant) in his diary free journey!

2) We have officially started packing for our move. We have only packed around a dozen boxes so far, but we already hate the whole process. Obviously it's gonna be worth it in the end, but goodness. Packing is NO fun. Especially when we use SO much stuff and can't pack up most of it until a few days before we move. But we are slowly trying to chip away at the pile of stuff we have to pack by packing things we KNOW we aren't going to use for a while. (Christmas decorations, silver platters, kitchen appliances that are only used twice a year... you get the picture!) Anyway. Packing stinks. But I am seriously beside myself with excitement about moving soon!!! I can't wait!!!

3) Yesterday I took this picture of Zachariah and it melts me into a giant puddle every time I look at it.

He is such a cute kid. And that hair is GORGEOUS. He pulls off the long haired look so wonderfully! But I'm not biased or anything. :)

4) I am still wanting to blog Micaiah's birthday party pics, but for some reason they are not wanting to upload to my blog. Apparently I have to go in and re-size them or something. I dunno. I'll figure it out this weekend-ish. So, it may be another little while before you see those. Sorry! They are on my facebook page though!

5) This month I am in charge of birthday treats for our church members, and I made cinnamon toast crunch cupcakes. I just wanted to share the recipe in case I haven't yet. They are SO unbelievably good. As in, they will change your cupcake eating life. You have GOT to try them!

6) Oh, also, I made strawberry doughnuts. This is my second time making them and they are such a huge hit with my family! They are baked, so not so awful for you. And instead of making the glaze I just dip the doughnuts in the leftover pureed strawberries as a topping. SO yum, and easy! (And to make them dairy free I just use lactose free butter and almond milk instead of regular milk. Wala!)

Ok, that's it for now! Have a good weekend, folks!

I am very happy to finally announce...

We are moving!!!!

Usually I am all over social networking big (or little) things that happen in our life while they are happening, but this all happened SO fast that I quite frankly haven't had the time to alert everyone until now! Within the last week someone came and looked at our house (the third person to see it since it has been on the market this time), made an offer, we accepted, we signed papers, started looking for houses, found THE perfect house, made an offer, signed papers for THAT house, they accepted our offer! We are having our home inspection done this afternoon, we are starting the loan process with the bank and then soon we will be starting the grueling task of packing up our whole house. After all that we hope to be in our new house by the end of March! Soooo exciting! And stressful. And exciting!

Here is a cell phone picture of our soon-to-be- new house. I'll have better pictures for ya once it is officially ours. :) It has been a long journey to get here (our house was on the market last year with no luck), but we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel! I am so excited. God is so, so good. He answered our prayers perfectly with this new house. Seriously. There is nothing we don't like about it. It fits our wants and needs perfectly! I am so, so thankful that He has worked this out for us! This next month is going to be the most exhausting and most exciting month!!! I cannot wait to move into our new house!

I will hopefully be back with a few more blog posts between now and then (I still need to blog Micaiah's birthday party pictures!), but with all this craziness going on I am not making any promises! :)

23 Months Old PDF Print E-mail

Micaiah has this new habit of begging to get in my bed right after he wakes up. It just started this week, and I am pretty sure this is his way of weening. (He has been nursing once a day for several months now, slowly weening himself.) Around Christmas, things were crazy busy and he went a couple days without nursing. We both just kinda forgot. And you know what? Those couple days were AWFUL. He was irritable and sooooo clingy. I was on edge and could not function because he was crying at me to hold him constantly. Then Daniel pointed out that he had not nursed. I nursed him that night, and he was back to his normal happy self. He was clearly not ready to ween. He felt "off" and no matter how much of my time was spent with him I could tell he felt a loss of connection between us during those two days.

But this week he has (on his own) just stopped asking to nurse, and instead he has started asking to lie in my bed with me. We will snuggle and talk a little bit. He will ask if my hair is wet from the shower and then tell me that he had another dream about waffles. Sometimes he even asks to watch a veggie tales video on my phone. But we mainly just snuggle. Then after he gets his snuggling fix, he sits up and asks to go see Rye-Rye. :)

These few moments each day are so special to me. In less than two weeks my baby will be two years old. He has always been my snuggly baby, but the older he gets the busier he gets. Which means less snuggle time for Mama. He will run up to me and hug me and give me kisses dozens of times during the day, but then he is running off as quickly as he came. So, I am obviously loving this time together and will continue to just soak it all in for as long as I can.

Oh, how I love this sweet baby!

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Yeah, I know. I'm a few days late. But we are ridiculously busy during Christmas with extended family stuff, so I am going to cut myself some slack, ok? Ok.

We had such a good Christmas! My grandma came in from out of town and we spent several evenings over at my parents house soaking up time with her and the fam. We also got to see both sets of families on Christmas day AND even had a couple hours of downtime somewhere in there! Down time is a major "win" when you have both sets of family in town! Usually we are running around like crazy trying to fit everyone in, but having two hours to crash at our house ON Christmas day is virtually unheard of. Needless to say, it was welcomed with open arms! We were very thankful for all of the fun family time we got to share with everyone!

And now the sad part of de-decorating and getting the house back in order has come. Boo. But even though all the Christmas decorations are put away, the boys are still busy playing with and enjoying their loot from us/their grandparents! It was clear right off the bat which gifts were going to be the favorites. And these favorites are totally blog worthy. So that is what today's post is going to be about! I am going to show you the top three gifts both of my children received this year for Christmas. You know, just in case you have a child with a birthday coming up, or something to think about for next year for Christmas. :)

First up we have Micaiah.

1) This child enjoys simple toys. Battery operated toys provide short lived entertainment for him (and most children, if we are all honest) so we try to stick with basic, classic toys. Wooden toys, books, puzzles, finger puppets... stuff like that. So it was no surprise to me when Micaiah became completely attached to this wooden car ramp!

You can purchase this from Toys R Us and from Amazon.com (other places too, I am sure. These are the two I am sure of though.) and not only is it cute, it is ridiculously fun to play with. The cars flip from level to level and sometimes skip each other on their way down. Not knowing which car is going to "win" makes it more fun for two competitive boys!

2) His second favorite would be his Lego Duplo set.

This is his very first set of legos and he is OBSESSED. We got him a large set and his Uncle Greg bought him a small set that goes along with it quite nicely! His imaginative play is downright adorable. "Come on, guys! Tiger, eat? Better? Alright, dis way, guys!" and "Mama, play? Mama tiger. Here. Window. Fall." He LOVES them so, so much. You can pretty much guarantee more of these sets will be going on his birthday list!

3) And last but not least, Micaiah's other favorite gift would have to be Good Night Moon.

We realized a while back that we didn't own this book and vowed to buy it for Micaiah for Christmas. Sure enough, this is his new favorite book! We read it every night before bed and several, several times during the day. And he wants everyone in the room during this story. Last night he went around the whole house collecting us for "Dood Night Moon". It was so cute. "Mama, come? Rye-Rye, come? Read?" He loves it. And we love that he loves it!

Now, for Zachariah's favorites!

1) Hands down, his favorite gift would be the Moon In My Room.

This is pretty much the COOLEST thing ever. It's a 3D moon that mounts on the wall and is controlled by a remote. With the click of a button the moon changes phases. So.stinkin.cool. Z uses it as his nightlight and it even has a self timer that turns it off after a certain amount of time! (Not sure how long, but it's long enough for Z to fall asleep!) After the second night of having this up in his room he looked at me and said, "Ok, now I want an Earth in my room! Do you think they make those?" :)

The Moon In My Room was bought at Toys R Us. I haven't seen it anywhere else, but I wasn't really looking anywhere else either. So it may be out there in other stores too!

2) Second on his list of favs is the Star Wars Science Jedi Telescope. Can you tell that he is in a science phase right now? ;)

This telescope has ten different images from Star Wars that are back lit and VERY easy to see. (Other things like this require you to be looking towards a light source. I was glad to see Z could enjoy this from anywhere in the house!) What makes this super fun is that Yoda is available at the touch of a button to explain more about the image you are viewing. Z loves that. He will often come up to me and say, "Mom! Do you know what this planet is?" I will say no and he will excitedly say something like "Well, Yoda is about to tell you!" He loves it. Anything that teaches him more about Star Wars gets two thumbs up from this five year old!

3) And the third favorite gift is his remote control car. He asked for a remote control Lightning McQueen for Christmas, but those suck. They are not made to last and I don't want to waste our money on overpriced junk. So I researched remote control cars and found one that was PERFECT for him. He just didn't know it yet. :)

This, my friends, is a remote control Killer Whale. I am convinced that it is the best remote control car out there, at least for Z's age range. Not only does it look cool, it drives over thick carpet, rocks and dirt and can even drive underwater! That's right. It's made to drive into puddles, ponds and pools. How awesome is that?! Lightning McQueen definitely can't do that. Z loves this thing. I was a little worried that when he opened it I would have to convince him that it would be better than the one he asked for, but he immediately thought this was the coolest car on earth so I didn't have to say a thing!

As you can imagine, these three gifts come HIGHLY recommended by the kids and adults in this house. And now that I have shared about our favorites I would love to hear about your kids favorite gift(s)!

Hope you all have a happy and safe New Years!
