Last year the boys had some AWESOME Halloween costumes. Zachariah was (and still is) totally into Star Wars, so they dressed up as Darth Vader and Chewbacca. (Click here for pictures.) I was kinda wanting to go with the Star Wars theme again this year. Maybe have a little Yoda and Luke Skywalker. But Z had other plans. He took one look at the Ironman costume in Target and declared that is who he was going to be for Halloween! And being the control freak that he is, he decided on Micaiah's costume too. :P

Without further adieu, I present to you my adorable superheroes!

Hope you all have a happy (and safe) Halloween!

Story number one:
Last week the boys were watching a DVD of several Pixar shorts. I was in the kitchen making their lunches but heard the following conversation take place.

Micaiah: Rye-Rye?

Zachariah: Yes?

Micaiah: What is dis?

Zachariah: This is Pixar! We are watching the DVD of Pixar shorts.

Micaiah: Oh. Rye-Rye?

Zachariah: Yes, Micaiah?

Micaiah: What is dis?

Zachariah: Pixar. We are watching Pixar shorts.

Micaiah: Ohhhhhh. Rye-Rye?

Zachariah: Yes?

Micaiah: What is dis?

Zachariah: Why do I have to say this a hundred times?!

Micaiah: Ummmm...

Micaiah: Rye-Rye. What is dis?

Zachariah: *sigh* It's Pixar.

Micaiah: Oh!

And repeat. They watched a half hour long DVD of the Pixar shorts and I did not EVER hear more than 30 seconds go by without that exact same conversation happening. Eventually Zachariah tuned him out and Micaiah was left to say "Rye-Rye? Rye-Rye? Rye-Rye?" a million times, and sure enough Z would tune back in and sweetly answer his questions.

Story number two:
(Preface: Sunday I came down with a cold. Daniel took off work Monday and went grocery shopping for me. He took Z with him while Micaiah was napping so that I could get a little break.)

Yesterday we were sitting down for lunch and Z looked at me and said, "So, Mom. When I am older, and you and dad are both sick at the same time, I will be glad to go to Publix for you! And I can take Micaiah!"

The reason for this post:
We have been having some issues with Zachariah recently. He won't listen to a word we say; he doesn't pay attention; he won't obey the first (or third) time; he won't speak to us with respect, and he can't seem to get a grip on his temper. I feel like we are at square one again with figuring out how to parent our child. It's discouraging and aggravating and it makes for very long days.

Sometimes I can get so angry that I lose site of the reality that he is a very sweet and loving child. I have never met a child with such a tender heart. I am constantly amazed at how sweet and thoughtful he can be and I need to do a better job of remembering that. He shows his sweet side everyday, and I need to pay closer attention to those times rather than focusing exclusively on the times when he disobeys.

Hello friends! I don't have a for-real-deal blog post for you, but I just wanted to check in and let everyone know that I am alive and still kickin'.

I have a yummy recipe for pork chops AND a family session sneak preview to show you all, but I haven't had time to sit down at the computer to look through and edit those pictures for ya. And I have issues posting without pictures. So you may be waiting a while!

And here is the funny thing. We aren't super busy. I mean, we are busy (who isn't these days?), but we aren't overwhelmingly busy. Just typically busy. We are sick though. Micaiah has had a cold for a week now, I caught it from him a few days ago, Z now has the cold AND a nasty ear infection. And Daniel has training classes two evenings a week. And I home school my five year old while chasing around a one year old. And I have to feed my family and procrastinate doing laundry and house work. And I started going to the gym a couple months ago.

Aha! The gym. That is what is taking up my computer time. Pesky exercising. Maybe I should try bring my computer to the gym and editing/blogging while on the elliptical. I am sure there is some device floating around out there that holds your computer for you while you exercise, right? I need to look into that.

And please, don't be impressed at the whole gym thing. I am finding it VERY difficult to make time to go to the gym when you have a family to take care of, so I only end up working out 2 times a week. Though I would love to be able to go everyday I will take what I can get at this point!

Anyway. Just in case you were wondering, yes I am still here. Yes, I still plan to have another post sometime in the near future, and yes my boys are still ridiculously adorable. ;)

Hope everyone is having a great week and enjoying this weather!

Birthday Vacation PDF Print E-mail

My oldest baby turned five years old last Thursday. FIVE YEARS OLD! It just blows my mind. Usually we throw a party and invite his little friends and family members to help us celebrate, but this year (and ONLY this year) we decided to change things up a bit. We nixed the party idea and took a little trip to Orlando, Florida instead! We spent two days in Disney World and one day at Sea World. It was SO awesome! And oh-my-gosh exhausting! Seriously, I don't even want to think about going to Disney again for another 3-5 years. I will probably need that long to recover from the craziness! But it was worth it.

This was Zachariah's (and obviously Micaiah's too) first trip to Disney and our first time there as a family. I took a total of one picture with my Canon and over 200 with my iPhone. I kind of regret not using my "real" camera more, but using my phone allowed me to actually BE there on vacation and not worry about setting up the "perfect picture". During our vacation I Instagrammed some of my favorites, so I am just going to plop those into this blog post so you can see some of the fun we had during Zachariah's birthday vacation!

Kindergarten PDF Print E-mail

My baby started Kindergarten today!

I know, I know. Try not to focus on how old he is and try to focus on how fun it is that we can run outside and play in the street during the middle of our school day. :P

Our first day was a good one. But due to the fact that I just started going to the gym, my arms feel like jello and they are not functioning properly. So I will try to check back with more school details and updates at the end of the week. Hopefully by then I won't need Daniel to support my arms while I type.

Hope you enjoy our first-day-of-school pictures!

P.S. The lunchbox will be used to bring a snack for our Tuesday classes with our home school group. (More on our awesome group later.) He is pretty excited about putting something besides plastic kitchen food inside his super cool lunchbox!

P.P.S. That last picture is my fav. :)
