18 Months Old PDF Print E-mail

You know what I realized the other day? Well, first I realized that my baby turned 18 months old; which is crazy. Then I realized that it has been far too long since I have had a Micaiah post. So last night after dinner I took him outside and snapped a few pictures for you guys. OK, I the pictures were mainly for me... but still.

I think everyone should just be impressed that I have a post with several pictures and videos. Yeah, I know. You can thank me later.

The past couple months have consisted of a crazy explosion in vocabulary for Micaiah. He has been trying out new words, making up his own versions of words and enjoying learning animal noises. It seems like it came out of nowhere! My favorite thing that he says is "Oooo, wats dis?" He says it so quickly and so cutely. (it's more like, "oooowatsdis") It melts me. I can't help but giggle as I answer his question.

It still blows my mind that he is starting to talk in sentences. Don't get me wrong, they are very short sentences--two to three words at most. Only those well acquainted with him can understand them as "words", but still, he is communicating. And that is very helpful when figuring out what he wants/needs or why he is upset. On top of that he still uses sign language, so that is EXTRA helpful. If I can't understand what he is trying to say, I can look at his sign and usually figure it out.

Instead of listing out the cute words that he says, I am just going to show you this video I took about a month ago. I really should take a new one, seeing as how his vocabulary has improved over the past couple weeks, but this one is just too cute... even if it is a month old.

And here is a video of his animal noises. I took this one a month ago too. He has added quite a few more to the mix now!

Gahhhh he just kills me with cute.

But the spike in vocabulary has not put an end to his screaming/yelling/pterodactyl noises. He is a mama's boy through and through. If I cant hold him exactly when he wants, he will yell about it. Then he will throw a tantrum that usually involves trying to climb up me in hopes of getting what he wants anyway. He has quite the temper, and we are trying to tame it a bit. It's a work in progress.

But don't let this cute face fool you... he is a BULLY. I'm serious! He can be just plain mean! ...but adorably so. I haven't witnessed bullying to anyone outside of our immediate family yet. He's mainly only a bully to his big brother. Zachariah is very sweet and tolerates it (and even encourages it sometimes), but Micaiah really does like to bully him. It was kinda funny at first. I mean, imagine seeing a cute little toddler walking over to Z with a sweet smile on his face and then abruptly hitting him on the head with a spatula. I have had to turn my head to laugh several times.

Let's see, what else. He loves bread, applesauce, sweet potatoes, any type of pasta, grapes and avocado. He could live off those six items for the rest of his childhood and not complain. (We of course feed him more than just his favorites!) He does not enjoy green beans, cantaloupe, cauliflower, squash or pears. We still offer these to him and try to figure out new ways to prepare the foods he doesn't like to encourage good eating habits!

Micaiah now has four favorite TV shows. A while ago he really didn't care much about watching TV, but now he actually asks for it. A lot of that has to do with his older brother enjoying TV so much, but still. He asks for Elmo, Blues Clues, Veggie Tales and Backyardigans. And when he watches tv he has to sit on the left cushion on the love seat with someone (usually Zachariah) next to him. His little routine is hilarious. Anytime he hears mention of TV he runs to the love seat urgently asking to "sssssssit. sssssssit."

As a side note: We limit the amount of TV they are allowed to watch. I like for them to only watch an hour a day. Some days they may watch a little more, and other days they may watch none at all. But we really do try to keep it to a minimum. Little brains need stimulation!

He is still the silliest little baby ever. Some of it may have to do with having a really silly brother to imitate, but I think a good bit is just his ridiculously funny personality. He is such a goober.

Micaiah still loves his Bear. He doesn't sleep without it, and he won't purposefully leave the house without it. In fact, just the other day he included his bear in our water play! As much as I tried to convince him it was a bad idea, he was begging and pleading for his stuffed friend to come play in the water. So the bear took a run through the sprinkler and took a dip in the water table. And while I was taking these pictures the poor thing got thrown in the dirt road several times. There isn't a single place that Micaiah won't take his cuddly little friend.

18 months. A year and a half old. Oy vey! This child is going to be two before I know it. Then I might be begging one of you fine readers to take him off my hands for a year or so. ;)
